Under the direction of its faculty members, the Vitreoretinal Disease program offers a two-year combined Medical and Surgical fellowship in the study of diseases of the vitreous and retina. Both faculty members have broad area of interests which creates a strong foundation for broadly based clinical and surgical training. Our fellows will be well prepared for career in either academic or private practice.
Research: Faculty are actively engaged in clinical and basic science research in the department and may collaborate with the fellow on projects of mutual interest.
Fellowship Benefits:
- Active participation in University Faculty Retina Clinical and Surgical Practice. Weekly practice volume of 150+ patients.
- Active participation in VA Retina Clinic each Wednesday. Weekly practice volume of 60+ patients in clinic with ample procedures. Average of 5-10 retinal surgeries.
- Participation in a large number of national clinical trials.
- Experience with Alcon and Bausch & Lomb vitrectomy platforms including 20, 23, and 25 gauge instrumentation. Juniors operate one full day a week. Seniors operate 2 full days a week. Likely surgical volume of 300-500 cases.
- Exposure to superb basic scientists studying retinal biology.
